Changes to the way health and social care will be delivered in NBCW.
East Lothian Integration Joint Board for Health & Social Care – that is the NHS & ELC Social care services – are tasked with working together to address our needs.
You can find out more about the Re-Provisioning project here.
TACKLING LONELINESS AND ISOLATION
A 1 year pathfinder project, starting in April 2019, will offer social prescribing from the GP’s and other organisations. People will be ‘chummed’ into groups in the area, helping to break the ice when attending for the first time. ‘Café chats’ is another way to find your feet in a community and we will also hold a Retirement Fresher’s Day to show what is going on in our area.
PROMOTING INTERGENERATIONAL ACTIVITIES
We held an information day in April 2018, along with Generations Working Together Scotland, to promote the benefits of all age groups getting together, particularly the young (nurseries) and the elderly (care homes).
We are still supporting projects which came out of this event.
EXPLORING DEATH AND DYING MATTERS
We held an Absent Friends Day on 11th November 2018 when the Community Council presented the town with a Memorial Book – held in the NB library – where people can leave messages in memory of loved ones.
In May 2019 we will hold a Remembrance Lunch and associated writing workshops.
SUPPORTING PEOPLE WITH DEMENTIA
We work to support Dementia Friendly East Lothian and hope to help set up a support Group in NB.
SUPPORTING COMMUNITY TRANSPORT
North Berwick Voluntary Car Scheme, which provides transport, mostly to elderly people, to local health appointments, shops and community activities, is an active member of H&WB. RVS who also provide transport and befriending are also members. We have supported these groups in promoting their activities.
INVESTIGATING TENANT ISSUES IN HOUSING FOR OLDER PEOPLE
We are aware that tenancy issues may be part of the proposed Extra Care Housing under re-provisioning.
SUPPORT FOR MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTION
Stepping Out, our local mental health support group, is an active member of H&WB
Dirleton Good Neighbour Scheme and Dirleton Bowling club are represented on the H&WB group.
